The research carried out by Carlos Martínez as part of the Master's Degree in Advanced Architectural Projects (MPAA) and the Doctoral Programme in Advanced Projects at ETSAM with such distinguished professors as Rafael Moneo, Alberto Campo Baeza, Emilio Tuñon, Ginés Garrido, Juan Herreros, Javier Maroto and Sergio Martín Blas on various topics related to architecture and its problems on different scales, has enabled him to acquire a profound theoretical discourse on architecture and to apply it in different contemporary contexts. Thus, addressing topics as broad as the study of the design strategies used by Steven Holl and Tschumi's photographic abstractions used in La Villette. From the graphic-formal analysis of different architects at the Chicago Biennial to the proxemic study of the homeless in the centre of Madrid. From learning design strategies in social housing from the leading Spanish architects of the Poblados program in Madrid during the Franco era to the comparative study of the Neighborhood Remodeling Program in Ventilla-Valdeacederas versus the slums of San Cosme in Lima. Carlos Martínez Muñoz proposes a type of advanced design combining practice/criticism and criticism/practice in his architecture.
